Job Summary

The Carpenter Art Garden’s Education Specialist will ensure that Aunt Lou’s House is a place where children and families can engage in educational experiences that enriches the academic, social, and emotional learning for school and life success. This is a part-time position (16-20 hours per week) at $15/hr.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Tutoring Program (on-going throughout the year)

      • Create and coordinate tutor training and mentoring for staff and volunteers

      • Serve as liaison between the Art Garden and neighborhood school/teacher

      • Coordinate the scheduling of tutors and students

      • Create a Lesson Plan for staff and volunteers to implement

  • Programming for Student Social/Emotional Development (on-going throughout the year)

      • Group sessions in character building

      • Classes to develop life preparation skills

      • Instruction to help children develop skills necessary to self-regulate, resolve conflicts, and become problem-solvers

  • Family Fun Sessions – monthly (on-going throughout the year)

      • Math Day, Reading Day, Board Game Day, Play Day, Holiday, and various themed family activities

  • Summer Adventures Camp Coordinator (3 weeks in summer- 3 days a week)

      • Provide students with academic skills review

      • Expose students to enrichment experiences

      • Provide students with continued social-emotional learning

  • Teen Job Hub Coordinator (on-going throughout the year)

      • Provide students with academic skills review, ACT prep, tutoring, and help with college applications

      • Coordinate classes: Drivers Education, Financial Literacy, Conflict Resolution

      • Organize Professional Speaker Series

Preferred Experience:

  • Four-year degree and relative child and family development experience

  • Curriculum development or related field experience

  • Experience in behavioral counseling development

  • Two years experience in an urban education setting

  • Demonstrate ability to implement appropriate educational programs

  • Communicate effectively with children and parents

  • Work well with a group and independently

  • Possess solid computer skills

  • Knowledge of grant writing for educational funding
